Around the world, people’s dreams are more alike than they are different. Everybody wants happy, healthy homes for their children. They want shelter, stability, and a fair shot at a better future. It starts with a safe, decent, place to live.
In the midst of a worldwide housing crisis, millions of families still live in dangerous, unhealthy housing, struggling every day just to survive. For them, Habitat for Humanity’s self-help housing program is a beacon of hope.
What Habitat is Doing
Since 1976, Habitat for Humanity has helped more than 2.5 million people improve their living situations. Over the decades, the pace has increase exponentially, as Habitat continues to refine its work and adapt its methods to serve more and more people.
Since 1993, Habitat for Humanity Lakeside has tithed at least 10% of its contributions to fund our mission internationally. Recent tithes have included contributions to affiliates in El Salvador, Malawi, Kyrgyzstan, and disaster struck areas such as Haiti. Typically for every one house built by Habitat for Humanity Lakeside, two are built internationally.
